What is HTML2POP3?

Download your email via POP3 even when the provider doesn't allow it

HTML2POP3 is a Java application born from a common need in the early 2000s: the ability to download email using standard protocols like POP3, even when service providers (such as Libero, Virgilio, or Email.it) limited access to their own web interface or connection network.

How it works?

The program acts as a "bridge" (proxy): 1. You install it on your computer. 2. You configure your email client (Outlook, Thunderbird, Gmail, etc.) to connect to 127.0.0.1 (your PC). 3. HTML2POP3 receives the request from the client, performs the login "simulating" a web user, downloads the messages, and delivers them back to the client in standard POP3 format.

A bit of history

The project was born on October 20, 2003, when Libero.it announced that POP3 access would become paid for those not using their internet connection. In a short time, HTML2POP3 became one of the most downloaded software in Italy, reaching nearly one million downloads in its history on SourceForge.

Version 3 and GitHub

Today, development continues on GitHub. Version 3 was completely overhauled and moved to the well-known social coding platform to facilitate collaboration and updates.
